This I Believe

You want to know what I believe?  I believe that procrastination is a big problem, especially when it comes to school.  Procrastination keeps you from doing work and will eventually spread out onto your daily life.  I mean, I can’t really say that this applies to everyone; but it definitely applies to me.

Even when writing this blog, I procrastinated.  It’s 1am right now, Sunday night and I just started this blog.  I had the entire Thanksgiving break to start this, but I was too distracted by really “important” activities.   These activities include, exercising, hanging out with friends, staring at the wall, and more exercising.  Yeah I know, I probably could’ve taken some time off exercising to start this blog; but that wouldn’t have been fun.

One reason why I believe procrastination is a problem, is that it piles up work and will eventually get in the way of you being able to do the things that you’d rather do.  The more work you put off, the harder you’ll have to work to finish them.  And also, the more work you put off, the harder it will be to remember what you have to do.

Another reason why procrastination is a problem is that it can become a habit that is hard to get rid of.  Usually habits such as biting your nails or chewing on pencils are easy to break, while smoking isn’t an easy habit to break.  This is only because the cigarettes already have addictive qualities in them.  But does this mean procrastination has its own addictive qualities?  Probably not, but you’ll find that once you start procrastinating, it will first become an option to avoid doing work, then eventually a natural reaction to all of your work.  I know this personally from experience.  The first time that I’ve ever done something last minute was in 7th grade.  After I actually completed the work last minute and received a reward for doing it correct.  I got the idea that I could do this with all my work which is how my problem began.

The final reason why I believe that procrastination is a problem is that it causes you to become lazy.  Putting off work to do more enjoyable things keeps you unoccupied for a longer period of time and will make you not want to do work even longer.  I probably could have done a better job with this blog, but eh I’ll tell you that another time.
